TRABZON EIGHT POLE HAMAM

In Pazarkapı neighborhood, it is in the Eight Direk Hamam Street, which is called by the name. The bath is believed to have been built by the Seljuks between the years 1072-1075. This hamam, which has a different plan than other baths in Trabzon, is similar to the Oba tents. Since the Seljuks started to settle in Anatolia from 1071 onwards, the works they built later also continued to have the influence of Central Asian art. According to the current state of the art, it is evident that some changes have been made. This gives us the idea that the bath was built during Seljuk times and that it has undergone some changes in various periods. (In other words, after the war of Malazgirt in 1071, the Turks settled in Anatolia and came to Trabzon.) In order to stop these progresses of the Turks, it was necessary to retreat, even though it was time to counter the Turks with the Greek Isaac Komnenos army of Trabzon With the strong formation of the city walls of Trabzon and the fortress of the castle, the Seljuks could not enter the sheriff, but they ruled for three years (1072-1075) in the west of the castle city, but in 1075 they were repelled by the sovereign governor of Theodor Gabras.171)
This rampart, which has a rectangular plan, is in the north direction. It is evident from the traces on the walls that this place was once a wooden dressing room. With a single door to the north, it enters the Cold section. To the right of this section is a small space. The walls of the bath were thick and made of cut stones. The binder material is lime. Cover three dome over the cold section. These domes feed belts and vaults from the sides. But two of the domes collapsed, and only one survived today. The right side of the floor, furnished with white stone, is curved in a sheer shape and extends from the south to the entrance.
The temperature section is entered from the west. This section is so devastated that it has lost its feature. The single, octagonal large dome in the middle holds eight columns underneath. The intervals between the boats are connected to each other by arches. The hexagonal lights on the dome provide another harmony inside the building. In the middle of the columns, it is understood from the lime traces that it was an octagonal Belly Stone beforehand
